Please (that's hello in the language, that's our Māori),

Welcome to Aotearoa, (that's New Zealand in te reo). I hope you had a great trip here and you weren’t too nervous because Aotearoa is a great place to live.

I would like to introduce myself.  I go to Frimley Primary School and my name is Riley.  I was born in N.Z and have lived here my whole life.  I hope you like it here as much as I do.  I play rugby for HRS (Hastings rugby club).

I have traveled throughout the North island of N.Z and my favourite place so far is Aukland.  There’s places like the Sky tower (with awesome views), Rainbows end (a theme park) and many other fun places.  Here in Hastings we have Splash planet and tons of other cool things.  Our summers here are molten hot and our winters are freezing but only in the mornings (mostly).

Us kids here love to play rugby, soccer, ride scooters and bikes.  Usually around 8:00 - 8:30 is rush hour for school.  Some kiwi favourites include hokey pokey (vanilla ice cream + crunchy sweets), mixes from the dairy, fish and chips and macca’s (Mcdonald's ; a restaurant).

Tēnā koa and Kia ora are just some of the ways we greet each other.  We say tons of different greetings here because we have a mix of different cultures such as Pakeha, Māori, Phillipian and many others.  You’ll pick up on the language in no time.

Anyway welcome to Aotearoa.  I hope you settle in quickly.  Do you miss you're home that much?

When the clock had hit zero we started the engines and the bang was crazy loud.  Shuttle to ground control.  Ground control respond with “Launching in t minus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 prepare for launch.”  We’re launching and ground control warn us that we’re leaving the earth's atmosphere.  Our boosters are now falling and the external tank has emptied and preparing to fall.

We had reached space and it was a full day over so we strapped onto the beds, falling asleep instantly.  The next day.  Ahh it’s morning and I was going to have cereal but

1. We didn’t pack the milk or cereal
2. The milk would pour out of the bowl and float off

I had an apple and went off to talk to ground control.  I has another apple and wrote and essay about the views from here.  I felt sleepy so I hopped in bed and strapped myself in.  The next day.  Today for breakfast I decided to have a few strawberries.

We had reached the space station so we entered.  We had to fix some ventilation and then I went outside and I took a few selfies.  The views were epic from up at the ISS space station.  Gazing down at the earth I could see the slush like clouds hovering around.  When I went in everyone else was having something to eat except JM, he was snapchatting to earth.  After I had a my food I went out and found an erupting volcano down at earth.  It looked like brown whipped cream being launched to space.  Finn said, “We’ve got to go back to earth.”

We we’re entering the shuttle to leave.  It was again really cramped and we were off.  We are now landing so of course the parachute launched out and slowed the shuttle down.  The shuttle had stopped but when we got out it was still claustrophobic because we were trapped in a crowd.  We were on the N.A.S.A tv show, live on the news and I think discovery channel.

Floating eggs

Floating eggs

First we got half a cup of water and tried to make some eggs, army men (Just toys) and many other things.

The egg didn’t float so we came up with a few solutions, one that I came up with was let the egg go off because when it goes off the egg gains holes which lets carbon dioxide in allowing it to float.

In the end we decided to do salt and first we tried three teaspoons of salt but that didn’t work.

Next we tried 5 teaspoons and it started to slowing float to the top.

The water was growing so dense that it was only possible to see when touching the glass.

Secondly we tried an army man but it started floating with three teaspoons, least amount of salt used.

Charlie who was in my group started screaming out the words “The army man is drowning, give him CPR.”

Thirdly and finally we tried a fake golf ball.

It only took three teaspoons again.

finn decided to lick the golf ball which was pretty gross because there was allsorts of things in there.

MRS.Pederson started by measuring half a cup of H2O / water.

She didn’t follow the instructions correctly but instead of putting guar gum second, she put glitter in.vh

Next she measured out one quarter of guar gum (Not dumped in, sprinkled in) and put one pipette of borax solution.

Two mins later.

Once two mins of waiting for it to become fully mixed, MRS.Pederson put half a pipette of borax solution in.

One min later.

That took a while but atleast it was only half the time because half the borax.

Finally MRS.Pederson added dye.

We got to play with the slime but I was in the second to last group.

It felt like jelly and smells like flour, but still cool.

I thought it would be stiff because all the ingredients would merge together and the guar gum would make a shell around it.
